CLIPS ADDS NCRP COMPATIBILITY TO ITS MULTIPURPOSE INTERNET SERVER SOFTWARE

InToto Product Turbocharges Companies' Entry
Into a New Era of Network Computing

Austin, TX -- October 1, 1996 -- The Computational Logic, Inc., Proven Solutions division (CLIPS) today announced the release of version 1.5 of InToto (formerly named Basic Internet Server Solution) for Sun Solaris. InToto's integrated suite of software tools enables companies to easily install and maintain a multipurpose server for exploiting a full array of Internet and intranet services, such as the World Wide Web, file transfer (FTP), electronic mail, and NetNews (Usenet). InToto v1.5 is fully compatible with the Network Computer Reference Profile (NCRP), a new standard that allows inexpensive, diskless network computers (NCs) to access and use a comprehensive range of software across the Internet--regardless of operating system.

"InToto is the first all-in-one NCRP-compatible Internet/intranet server software solution on the market," said Paul Toprac, Proven Solutions' director of business development. "Not only does it let businesses easily install a complete, integrated Internet server software, it can also be used to complement existing Sun Netra and Netscape server installations."

Multipurpose Internet/Intranet Services Made Easy

Virtually all of today's companies want to use the Internet, but many find it prohibitively costly and time-consuming to fully exploit all of the Internet services that are available. Software vendors tend to offer only single-purpose Internet solutions primarily Web serversand it takes several man-months and tens of thousands of dollars to custom-build more comprehensive solutions. As a result, many end-user organizations take advantage only of the World Wide Web and miss out on other, equally sophisticated Internet services that increase system security, improve connectivity and collaboration, offer state-of-the-art mail and messaging capabilities, and more.

InToto makes these services readily available in a well-documented, logically configured software suite that is simple to install and administer. Customers acquire a wide range of Internet and intranet capabilities:

InToto Is Also a Vital Component of Network Computing

InToto v1.5 incorporates all the protocols required for NCRP compatibility, thereby enabling companies to take advantage of the emerging arena of network computing. The product enables organizations to combine the convenience and centralized management of a server- centric environment with the speed, graphics capabilities, and flexibility expected by today's personal computer users. What's more, system administrators can perform software upgrades, cross-platform deployment, and other management tasks in a fraction of the time required currently.

"With our server software and network computers there is much less training involved, and dramatically less need for system maintenance," said Toprac. People just need to know how to use the browser user interface."

Pricing and Availability

InToto is being sold for a special introductory price of $950; after February 1, 1997, the suggested retail price will rise to $1,950. Available now, the product requires Sun Solaris 2.5, SPARC-based hardware with a hard drive having at least 40MB of free space, a CD-ROM drive, and a floppy-disk drive. The package includes a high-quality User Guide, free phone support for installation, free e-mail support for 30 days, and free upgrades for one year.

InToto version 2.0, scheduled for release in mid-1997, will include a GUI console for configuration and management. Based on Java, this new console will make it even easier for system administrators to install, configure and manage Internet services.
